Benjamin Doane
Age: 17
A participant in the Perlman Music Program's 'littles' summer course since 2017, Ben previously attended the Heifetz International Music Institute and the Bowdoin International Music Festival for summer study. This year Ben was accepted into the International Musicians Seminar Prussia Cove, playing for cellists Steven Isserlis and David Waterman in the spring.
Ben won third prize in the Senior String Division of the 2019 MTNA National Competition. In 2017 he received second prize in the National Classics Alive Auditions in California.
As soloist, Ben has performed with the Cayuga Chamber Orchestra and with other orchestras in New York State and Kansas. In 2016 he was broadcast on WXXI as winner of the David Hochstein Recital competition. In 2018, Ben received the Aldrige-Tinker Scholarship and the Lowry Award from the Rochester Music Hall of Fame.
From 2010 to 2016 Ben was a member of Alice Kanack's improvising ensemble, traveling to several ASTA string conferences and other music workshops.
In the 2018-19 academic year, Ben studied with Guy Johnston as part of the Eastman School of Music's one year Immersion program. He is currently studying with Timothy Eddy at The Juilliard School for his undergraduate degree. Formative teachers include Steven Doane, Rosemary Elliott, and Katie Fittipaldi.
