Minyi Zhang is a pianist currently studying at The Juilliard School under Jerome
Lowenthal and Matti Raekallio. Highlights of the 2018-19 season include performances
at The Juilliard School, her concerto debuts of the Schumann Concerto in A minor in
Shenzhen, China and the Ravel Concerto in G major with the Fort Worth Symphony.
Her performances have been praised "heavenly" and "with a maturity beyond her age".
Minyi is the winner of the PianoTexas Concerto Competition in 2019, the first prize
winner of the 2016 Shenzhen Piano Open Competition and a Finalist of David D.
Dubois Piano Competition in 2016. In 2015, she received 2nd Prize in the Michigan
MTNA Competition "Senior Performance" and was a finalist in the Interlochen Arts
Academy Concerto Competition. In China, she was awarded the Gold Prize in The Third
"Changjiang Cup" National Children's Piano Tournament and the Grand Prize among All
Gold Prize Recipients.
Born in Shenzhen, China, Minyi started studying piano at the age of six. Her teachers
there include Professors Mei Xiao, Zhaoyi Dan, and Mingqiang Li. She went to high
school in Michigan at the Interlochen Arts Academy, where she studied with Dr. Michael
Coonrod and Dr. Thomas J. Lymenstull. During her time at Interlochen, Minyi was
selected as the Edward P. Frohlich Piano Scholar and the George and Joyce Kempton
Academy Piano Scholar. In addition to her studies at schools, she was a participant at
the Art of Piano, the Pianofest in The Hamptons and PianoTexas summer festivals. She
also worked with many outstanding artists such as Gabriel Kwok, Yoshikazu Nagai,
Yong-Hi Moon, Paul Schenly, Arie Vardi adnRichard Goode.
